It goes without saying that our skincare needs change with the weather. The lightweight, oil-free, mattifying products that were our saviour in the summertime just won’t cut it in the fall and winter. Rather, our skin needs extra care and hydration (hello dry, flaky skin!). Luckily a few minor tweaks to your existing regime are all you need to give your skin that added TLC. Here are a few of the skincare essentials I can’t live without in the cooler months.
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+
This body lotion is fantastic. It’s rich – but not greasy – and super hydrating. It’s also great for highly sensitive skin (like mine!) and does a great job at restoring dry, crackly hands as well. I lather this on nightly!
The Visionnaire product range from Lancôme is fantastique! The combination of the serum, eye cream and face cream is a triple threat, especially when it comes to cooler temperatures. Lately I’ve been using all three products at night and wake up with skin that feels infinitely more nourished – the cold weather doesn’t stand a chance!
Lumene Cleansing Wipes
Lumene is a Finnish skincare and makeup brand, and they have a diverse range of products for various skin needs at affordable price points, not to mention arctic berries are included in a number of their products. How amazing is that!? The Basic Blue 3 in 1 Cleansing Wipes are good for cleaning your face in a pinch (or before reapplying makeup). Gentle yet effective: an ideal combination. Disclaimer: I’m not sure if the Basic Blue range is still available or not, but they also sell Sensitive Touch Cleansing Wipes, which sound like they would be just as wonderful.
Lumene Ultra Sensitive SOS Intense Cream
This is the face lotion you absolutely want to have in your arsenal when your skin feels dry, tight and painful. You will feel nearly instant relief after you apply it – SOS is definitely not an overstatement with this lotion.
La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 60
Who says you don’t need sunscreen in the fall and winter? SPF is crucial all year round, and I am very loyal to this ultra-fluid lotion. It dissolves into skin quickly, without that thick filmy sunscreen feel. It’s a great makeup base as well. While some people may think SPF 60 is a bit extreme in this climate, I disagree – I like to use a high SPF count daily (although sometimes you can catch me using the brand’s SPF 45 or 50 instead).
Lumene Touch of Radiance Serum Foundation
Since purchasing this in Finland over the summer, I have been hooked on this foundation. It feels like a serum, yet provides the coverage of a foundation. In a word: perfection!
Maybelline Baby Lips
This lip gloss is the best. My lips get chapped in no time at all, but Baby Lips keeps them hydrated all day long, not to mention it has a hint of colour that lasts. No lipstick required!
